HealthTerm – as a terminology toolbox

HealthTerm is a complete suite of tools designed to manage all aspects of terminology, classifications, code systems, dropdown lists, local content etc. We simply call this ‘content’. HealthTerm facilitates the adaptation and practical use of codes in applications across the enterprise. The wide variety of advanced terminology services – Terminology as a Service – will help improve the consistency and quality of the used content. HealthTerm is a cornerstone for bridging the gap between applications and organisations in healthcare.

HealthTerm consists of a Terminology Engine that facilitates management, integration, deployment and extension of standard content, and the possibility to create subsets of codes. This will enable the organisation to implement professional Terminology Governance for maintenance of content, ranging from the individual application to complete enterprise support and support between enterprises.

HealthTerm – as a cloud service

HealthTerm is deployed in cloud (e.g. AWS / SoftLayer) and here it can be scaled into the appropriate size and meet any performance requirements. As a multi-tenancy, multi-lingual system – with high security, this standard application is very efficient and easy to implement.

HealthTerm is a technical plug and play component for software vendors which allows your system to facilitate in searching up-to-date code system, subsets of code system, normalize codes (mapping) between local codes and standard code and much more.

We have used HealthTerm for more than 10 years. HealthTerm was the basis of our successful translation of SNOMED CT into Danish. We translated almost 300.000 concepts, with a pace of 10.000 a month, in a 6 step quality controlled workflow – this later became the defacto standard by IHTSDO for SNOMED CT translation. CareCom has provided the epSOS project with Central Terminology Server, which has been used for the semantic related activities in the epSOS project. Both as a terminology repository for distribution as well as for tooling for creating the semantic data needed for supporting the project (23 countries and 27 central code systems, all needed to be translated and/or mapped), a total of over 500 namespaces on one central server. This has worked well for us within the scope of the project, and we know there are countries looking at using this also for their national implementations.
